Greetings

Welcome to the May newsletter from In Balance Physiotherapy.

We Are Celebrating Physiotherapy Month

May is National Physiotherapy Month and physiotherapists, physiotherapist assistants, and physiotherapy students alike commemorate their passion for helping people lead healthy, fulfilling lives.

To highlight the importance of this helping profession, we want to share the many ways physiotherapy can benefit individuals with different physical needs. These include pain reduction, improved mobility, accelerated injury recovery, and a lowered risk of surgical intervention.

This year, National Physiotherapy month focuses on how physiotherapists help people who are struggling with chronic pain experience less pain and reduce their need for prescription medications such as opioids.

Some people also achieve complete recovery from pain and mobility problems. One of the keys to positive, long-term outcomes is starting physiotherapy early and promptly following a bodily injury or debilitating condition.

At In Balance Physiotherapy, our passion is helping improve the lives of so many in our community through Physiotherapy.

In this newsletter, we are discussing proper cane height and how to use a cane.

Having to use a cane may initially be a daunting experience, but over time and with the right guidance it can become a beneficial tool for enhanced stability. Canes also help people maintain their balance while standing and walking.

MOVE WELL

Dangers of a Concussion

Any blunt force or trauma that causes the brain to rapidly hit the inside of the skull can cause a concussion. A person who experiences this type of injury may appear confused or complain of a headache following the injury.

EAT WELL

Making healthy dinners and desserts can be both fun and beneficial. Here are two quick and easy recipes that are sure to keep you coming back for more.

Honey Garlic Shrimp

From: sallysbakingaddiction.com

This simple recipe is a fan favourite because it's quick, easy, and delicious. Mix honey, reduced-sodium soy sauce, minced garlic, olive oil, and fresh ginger for a zesty shrimp marinade.

Sautee the shrimp, add a garnish of green onion, and you're done. Serve with a side of vegetables, salad, brown rice, or pasta for a healthy, hearty meal.

Raw Cacao Bites

From: simpleveganblog.com

It only takes three ingredients to make these tasty bites: walnuts, Medjool dates, and cacao. You can also use other types of dates and add maple syrup or molasses for extra flavour.

Grab a powerful blender or food processor and blend the ingredients into a soft dough. Then use your hands to make ready-to-serve, bite-sized cacao balls.
